David's ACL Surgery

Arthroscopic photos of the operation

These are the photos that Dr Kobs (or one of his assistants) took during my knee surgery. He gave them on photo paper, four to a sheet.

This photos shows the cartlidge in my knee. It is smooth so its in good condition.
More cartlidge in good condition
This is my shredded ACL floating around where it should be nice and smooth
At the back of the centre bit is my Medial Cruciate Ligament, in good condition. Initially, the doctor thought my MCL might have been damaged as well.  Not so, fortunately. The bubbles are fluids used to keep the area clear so the doctor can see what's going on.
Another shot of my ligaments. Going from center to upper left is a good ligament (perhaps the posterial cruciate ligaement). My shredded ACL is the floaty mushy bits in the lower half of the photo.
Another healthy ligament
This shows a healthy ligament in the front-centre area. The torn ACL is in the darker area on the right of that.
Healthy stuff. Perhaps my knee cap.
Getting ready to clean out the shredded ACL. Lots of mushy stuff.
Removing some of the mushy stuff. Some has already been removed.
Drilling an 8mm hole in the bone ready for the screw. The replacement ACL (piece of hamstring) hangs over the screw and is stapled to the bone at the bottom.
The screw is now in position.
Moving the piece of my hamstring into position
